The Grinds are gone!

I was beginning to think the goose grind was going to stick around forever.  The grinds of geese have moved out for the time being.  Jalen and I sat in the tank for the afternoon and we ended up taking a drake mallard and a drake pintail.  Both were nice birds.  It was a great time for the both of us. Jalen was a champ out at the blind, and enjoyed every minute of the hunt.  He kept his eyes on the sky the entire afternoon!  Good times...

It's raining DUCKS??? at the Gridley Property

Some how, some way, ducks found the club.  I guess it just takes gail force winds to get them in.  My Dad, Dave, and Richard Crawford were on deck for the hunt of the season.  When all was said and done there was quite the pile of waterfowl in the blind; 26 Ducks, and 11 geese in all.  Dave had to leave early so the picture is missing his 5 mallard and 4 geese that he took with him.  My Dad (on the right) also took his first double-banded bird.  His Ross Goose had a $50.00 REWARD Band and a standard band.  NICE.

North Wind a-blowin'

The specks don't seem to like the decoy spread anymore!  I can't believe the difference.  December 8th we started hunting the club, and we have now taken 80 geese total.  I lost count on the ducks.  Well... today's hunt was great.  Labin, Anthony, and I took a total of 5 geese, (4 specks, and 1 snow), and 4 ducks, (3 widgeon, and 1 Pintail).  Time passed too quickly, and it was time to go before we knew it.

Labin and Anthony wore the birds out!

What a great shoot!

A looooong day... Yolo then Gridley

What a long day...

I had reservation #2 at Yolo today, and invited two great friends; Bob Neighbours, and Ted Carman.  We took blind #16 and ended up shooting a grand total of 6 drake greenwings.  Not a slammer like I thought it would be...  So Bob and I decided to head over to the Farris Road club and shake the Specks up a bit.  It worked.  We got to the blind at 2:00 pm and I pulled four specks out of a flock of forty.  They worked right into the blind at 25-30 yards, and we dropped three out of the four.  The next group that came by was a pair.  They just loved the Chen Caille speck call and bombed right in.  We dropped both of them in the decoys to finish the day off.  Nice...icing on the cake.

Afternoon in Gridley.

2nd Hunt At The Gridley Property

Playing the Odds

The blind was packed this morning hoping for another bangup day at the Gridley Club.  (We really need a better name.)  The Specks all decided to grind up right next to our club.  That shut us down until my Dad jumped them up and ran them off a mile or so.  By the time the birds wanted to fly through, we were all ready to leave.

Specks by the Pound!!!

Gridley Property...

My brother Dave, and I had a great day at the Gridley Property.  We hooked flock after flock and brought them in close enough to bang limits!

East side action.

Does It Get Any Better?

Does It Get Any Better?

My Dad, Chris Bradford and I shot the Gridley Club and had an unbelievable time doing it.  My brother came out at 9 or so to see that we already had 7 specks.  We ended the day with a grand total of 15 specklebellies!  What a great hunt!

Gridley Club-Shoot #1

Intro to the Gridley Club

Dave and I made our way through Gridley and out to the Duck/Goose property.  There were tons of ducks on the water before shoot time, but none thought about coming back.  The Speck on the other hand, had no problem working the decoys.  Good times...

Blue-bird days are the best!
