Could it get any better???
Day two of the Oregon adventure was pretty darn exciting. We got into the birds in the morning, and in the evening with great success on each trip out. We ended with near?? or full limits?? still don't remember due to the lack of sleep! Anyways. here's a photo of the aftermath!!!
October 28, 2008 Opening Day... Balance of the State- California
An Afternoon Hunt with Aaron
Opening day is special to me in many ways. Firstly, I started taking two of my boys out on the opener last year at the ages of 7 yrs. and 6 yrs. The weather is usually nice and the water is never too deep in the ponds I frequent. They had a blast last year! This year only Aaron got to get out with me, and we made the best of it! We got into the pond that a great friend had saved for us and we had birds buzzing us in no time. I convinced my son that he was going to call all the birds for us, so he gave it his best shot. We had a few mallard and gadwall and a limit before we knew it. Getting out to the pond at 1:30 doesn't leave much time for a long hunt, and the hunt was over much too quickly. When in the field with my son there is a connection that can be found no where else. Life is so good...
October 28, 2008 Opening Sunday... Balance of the State
To the refuge we go...
Bill got a reservation so it was off to our local duck hole... There was four of us on this wild and crazy trip, and we made the best of a rather slow day. Mike, Andy, Bill and I spread out in our pond in two's and took turns pulling the birds off of eachothers setup. It was a fun hunt that was filled with specklebelly geese that we couldn't shoot. There's even rumor that there was a banded duck shot...though Bill and I never saw light of it!!! Hmmm...
October 28, 2008 Sunday with Bill (BarleySoda)
A Sunday strole...
There we were... just sitting there doing nothing but anoying our pond neighbours with our calling lessons, and whammo... Specks in the closed zone. 12 birds more than 400 yards away. Some fancy footwork on the RedBone, and they were well within destruction range! Three specks in the bag. Bill then made a very nice shot on a single that also enjoyed the sweet music of the RedBone speck call. We ended up with 4 specks and 3 ducks.
